Monotype Workshop
A monotype is a unique, one-of-a-kind print made by applying ink or paint to a smooth, non-absorbent surface (such as glass, metal, or plexiglass) and transferring the image onto paper. Because the image is pressed directly from the plate, it yields exactly one unrepeatable original piece (or until the ink no longer imprints on the paper).
Cast Drawing Using the Sight/Size Method with Michael Voss
This course focuses on the fundamental principles of the classical practice of cast drawing using the sight/size method. Sight/size has been and still is used in ateliers for centuries to train the artist’s eye.
Drypoint Intaglio
A simple intaglio technique that involves scratching the surface of a plate with a metal point, inking and printing. It does not use acid or any other corrosive chemical to create the design. Drypoints can be made with copper, aluminium or even transparent plastic. For this workshop we will be using plexiglass.
Block Printing Class
This course provides direct, hands-on experience in relief printmaking. Using carving tools, students will learn to create rubber and linoleum prints using both hand-printing methods and the press.
Edgar Degas Method
During the mid-1870's, he started to explore lithography and monotype. He produced 300 monotypes, using the effects of monotype and reworked those prints with pastel.
His methods were ink on metal, run through the press and used as a starting point that could be reworked and revised.
Greener Traditional Intaglio with Carla Castro Gomez
The curriculum replaces traditional acids, grounds with safer alternatives, allowing students to explore in a safer studio environment. This course covers only methods of drypoint and etching.
