A monotype is a unique, one-of-a-kind print made by applying ink or paint to a smooth, non-absorbent surface (such as glass, metal, or plexiglass) and transferring the image onto paper. Because the image is pressed directly from the plate, it yields exactly one unrepeatable original piece (or until the ink no longer imprints on the paper).
What to Expect
-
Monotype printmaking is a quick and simple process. Technically, a monotype is only one impression, so the work you create is a unique work on paper. But there is often the ability to create ‘ghost prints’. The results can be surprising, subtle, dramatic, and painterly. All depending on how you work with this adaptable and exciting method of image making.

All tools, ink and paper is provided at the studio. So just bring yourself and enjoy learning something new!
-
A monotype is an entirely unique work of art. A monoprint forms part of a series of prints that each have some variation between them.
